Your First 2 Years at FCB

See catalog for FCB General Requirements

The goal of the Business Preparation student during this two-year program is to complete the courses that will fulfill the requirements to qualify for the Business Professional Program. The student will then become eligible (if all other requirements have been met) to take upper-division business courses (300/400-level) and to be assigned a permanent faculty advisor in his/her chosen major.

In general, the junior-senior years constitute the professional program of the undergraduate curriculum. The following standards are required for admission to the professional program and permission to take restricted upper division courses:

  1. Completion of at least 56 credit hours with a minimum
overall grade point average of 2.00.
  2. Completion of ENG 101 & ENG102 or ENG 105, MAT
    114, MAT 119, CIS 120, ACC 205, ACC 255, ACC 256, ECO 201, ECO
284, ECO 285, with a minimum overall grade point average for
these courses of 2.75 and a grade of "C" or better in each
    of these courses.
  3. Completion of 6 Pathways activities.

IMPORTANT: If the student was admitted to the University with a deficiency (such as math or science), that deficiency must be included and successfully satisfied within the first two semesters.

* ENG 105 should be completed during the first year; one of the courses should be taken the first semester and the alternate course should be taken during the second semester.

  • Many Business Preparation students will need one or more prerequisite courses (MAT 101X, 102X) before enrolling in MAT 114. The course the student should begin with is determined by taking the Math Placement exam, or by ACT/SAT scores.
  • It is recommended that the student be aware of the The W. A. Franke College of Business General Academic Requirements when selecting Liberal Studies courses (information available in FCB Office of Academic Services, Room 222 or your course catalog).
  • CIS 120 may be used in the Science/Applied Science block of the Liberal Studies program if the student is not majoring in Computer Information Systems.
  • ECO 284 and 285 may be used in the Social and Political Worlds block of the Liberal Studies program if the student is not majoring in Economics.
  • Electives may be any non-business, college-level course offered by NAU or transferred from an approved institution.

All business majors must complete a minimum of 44 hours of coursework outside of The W. A. Franke College of Business by the time they graduate.
