Conference History
In 1976 economist Bob Eggert and Frank Besnette,
then dean of The W. A. Franke College of Business, developed
the conference and NAU President Larry Walkup promptly endorsed
their efforts. The first conference, attended by 70 people, was
held in January 1977 with Art Ekholm, Senior Economist at Texas
Electric Service Co. and Timothy Shaheen of Wells Fargo Bank as
the featured outside speakers. Since then, the conference has
become a Flagstaff institution, bringing the insights of eminent
economists to our city. Featured speakers have been
- Howard Craven – Union Bank, Los Angeles
- Paul McCracken – Chairman, President’s
Council of Economic Advisers, 1979 and 1987
- George Brown – The Conference Board
- Murray Weidenbaum – Chairman, President’s Council
of Economic Advisers
- Henry Wallich – Member, Board of Governors of the
Federal Reserve System
- Robert Dederick – U.S. Department of Commerce
- Charles Reeder – The Du Pont Corporation

Economic Advisers

are going you might end up somewhere else.” – we hope today’s
conference will help you end up where you want to be.
