land is located in La Paz County, Arizona, consisting of 225,955 acres;
and in San Bernardino and Riverside counties in California, consisting
of 42,696 acres. The reservation’s elevation is 413 feet. Low, arid
desert lands; fertile riverbeds; and abrupt mountain ranges characterize
the Reservation’s lands. The Colorado River runs north to south through
the Reservation, providing 90 miles of shoreline.
Mohave, Chemehuevi, Hopi, and Navajo Indians reside on
the reservation. The Mohave people have inhabited the area for centuries
while members of the other tribes were relocated to the reservation in
the 1940s.
The incorporated community of Parker is located on and
surrounded by reservation lands. A second community, Poston, is located
on the Reservation, 20 miles south of Parker.
The fertile river-bottom lands and available water
allow irrigated agriculture, which support the cultivation of cotton,
alfalfa, feed, grains, lettuce, and melons. Approximately 89,422 acres
are leased in Arizona and California for agriculture and another 50,500
is available for cultivation

‘AHAKHAV
Tribal Preserve
The ‘Ahakhav Tribal Preserve consists of 1,253 acres of
wilderness, a 3.5 acre park. “The preserve serves many purposes.
One is to provide recreational and learning opportunities to the
surrounding community as well as visitors. The other is to serve as a
revegetation area for endangered and threatened plants and animals
native to the Lower Colorado River Basin. The Lower Colorado is an area
that faces many problems, from damming that causes changes in natural
stream flow, to a variety of invasive species. The preserve is an
ongoing project to study methods of revegetation and restoration that
may be used though out the area.” ('Ahakhav Tribal Preserve, website)
Visitors to the preserve can enjoy many activities: fishing, birding,
canoeing, river trips, overnight camping, and daytrips.
'Ahakhav Revegetation Nursery
offers native plants for residential, commercial and wholesale, and
expert advice on landscaping and revegetation projects.
CRIT operates the Moovalya Plaza, a shopping center, with
