The Pascua Yaqui Indian Reservation is located in southwestern Arizona, approximately 15 miles southwest of downtown Tucson on 1,152 acres of trust land.  The Pascua Yaqui Indians of Arizona are descendants of the ancient Toltecs who occupied a large area of the Southwest and Mexico.

The Pascua Yaqui Indian Reservation is surrounded by richly vegetated, scenic desert that offers recreational and sightseeing opportunities.  The Mt. Lemmon ski area is an hour east of Tucson, and Saguaro National Monument is a few miles north.  Other sights include the San Xavier del Bac Mission, Old Tucson Studios, Sonoran Desert Museum, and Kitt Peak Observatory.  The nearby Santa Catalina, Tucson, and Rincon Mountains provide hiking and camping opportunities (BIA, Tribes of Arizona, 1994).

Many of the Yaqui Tribal members live off of the Reservation in communities throughout Arizona.  These members are concentrated in Yoem Pueblo in Marana, Barrio Libre in South Tucson, and Old Pascua in Tucson.  Members also live in the Phoenix metro area, in the communities of High Town in Chandler, Penjamo Pueblo in Scottsdale, and in Guadalupe.

Articles about the Pascua Yaqui Tribe’s history, culture and language are available on the official website.
