David Welling ('97 CIS, '99 MBA) writes:

[Dean Gerety,] your recent mailing talked about the ranking of the school and the [MBA] program, and I wanted to say congratulations. It is getting the acknowledge-ment that it deserves. As for me, I spent a few years working as a government contractor down in Sierra Vista. And once again I have to give you credit. Within a year of moving down there I was in charge of tasks, and by the time I left I was managing the development of one of the largest systems in the nation. I am now in law school. I hope to graduate in 2009.

Once again, congratulations. Keep up the good work.

Jeff Baugus Returns, Purchases Sallee Insurance
by Art Pulis, Sun Business Advocate

One of Wickenburg, Arizona’s top independent insurance agencies has changed ownership, name, and has come full circle as it has been acquired by a former owner.

Jeff Baugus (’90 FIN), started his own insurance agency as a student at NAU and operated it after graduation. In 1998 Baugus sold his Flagstaff agency and purchased an interest in and managed what was then CB-Leavitt Insurance in Wickenburg. In three years, he sold his interest to the Sallees and opened InsuranceBeacon.com, primarily an on-line independent agency, in Surprise, Arizona.

While concentrating on the on-line business, Baugus found that the growth of the Surprise market demanded he open an office for local customers.

Said Baugus, "As soon as I learned that Don and Trish were considering retirement we started talking, and I knew that I wanted to return to the Wickenburg market. I’ll keep the office in Surprise."The local office will carry the name of InsuranceBeacon.com.

Baugus also owns a residential mortgage company in Surprise called Mortgage Beacon and anticipates having a mortgage planner in the Wickenburg office as the need arises.
