This is an excellent program for adventerous hikers. Because of some last minute cancellations, our group had only 7 participants and therefore just one guide/coordinator. Peter did a marvelous job of challenging all of us and encouraging us to push just beyond our individual comfort levels. The Level 6 designation and description are very accurate. We had rather unique weather for this time of year in Sedona -- rain, snow, and some very cold temperatures. Peter was able to change the hiking plans to find us safe and beautiful hikes each day. Because of the significant precipitation, we had waterfalls and creeks that would normally be completely dry. As the program title suggests, we definitely hiked "off the beaten track." Each day we began on established trails, but then took less-used side trails that led to high rock arches, Indian ruins and pictographs, and amazing views. During each hike, Peter shared his knowledge of the area's geology, plant life, and rock formations. Our motel accomodations were fine, but the meals in the adjacent restaurant need improvement, both in quantity and quality. Our two evening programs were interesting. Overall this is an excellent and well planned program. I have pictures of this trip (and other Road Scholar programs that I have taken part in) at www.kodakgallery.com/eknesper.
